Yahoo Online Dating – Yahoo Personals Review

I have never been a fan of meeting people online because of all the horror stories I watch about on the boob tube. But that does not mean I am not curious, especially now because I just moved to a new state and the only man I know is the old guy that opens the door of at the lobby of my building.

Since I have a Yahoo! account of my own, I thought of checking Yahoo! Personals first and foremost. When I got to the home page of Yahoo!, I did the usual log in. Taking a deep breath as if I am about to undergo a sorority initiation, I clicked the link for the Yahoo! Personals page.

The first page asked me to fill out the following:

I’m a (blank) seeking a (blank)

Age (choose between 18 to 32)

Within (number of miles) of (City or Zip Code)

Then, it asked me to refine my search by specifying other details:

His body type: (choices are Any, Slim, Slender, Average, Athletic, Fit, Thick, A few extra pounds, Large, Voluptuous)

Is there even a difference between “Thick” and “Large”?

His ethnicity: (choices are Any, African American, Asian, Caucasian, East Indian, Hispanic/Latino, Middle Eastern, Native American, Pacific Islander, Inter-Racial, Other)

 His Education

After that I clicked “Find my match.” The new page showed the number of matches and the pictures of the men that hit my preference. The guy on the first profile looked interesting so I clicked the link that said “View Full Profile”.

Before it allowed me to check his profile, a page popped up asking me to agree to a certain “Code of Conduct” making me agree that I am single, will be honest, will not become offensive and follow the guidelines that the Yahoo! Personals impose. I said I agreed and it led me to his profile.

He seemed like a nice fellow and we actually have the same interests. After reading his entire profile, I reached for my mouse and clicked the button that said “Email Him”.

Lo and behold! A window appeared asking me to pay $25.00 to avail of the option to contact him! I felt so betrayed, the site should have said a fee needs to be paid on the first page, not after seeing the profiles.

I guess it was a marketing tactic for them to lure people to paying after seeing the profiles but I felt it was just not a polite way of doing business. As usual marketing and profit is given more weight than customer satisfaction. Quite disappointing.
